Maybe BMW thinks the best way to get new customers in a slowdown is by offering variety. At least that’s what its begging to look like from some new info from the guys over at BMW Blog. They are reporting that German manufacturer is preparing three distinct models for production.
First is what is being called the 6-Series GT. When the new 6-Series arrives in 2010, a sedan-coupe will follow shortly thereafter. Audi’s introduction of the A7 likely reignited BMW’s interest in a four-door "coupe". This one is supposed to draw elements from the CS concept and use small rear doors hinged at the rear.
The 3-Series will be getting a Supersports model. The exact placement of this in the 3-Searies linup may be a little tricky. We’re had rumors of a 1-Series Supersports, but it carries that name because “M1” already has a very different history at BMW. The 3-Series already has its “M” car, so our best guess would pitch the Supersports model as a lighter, track-focused version of the 335i.
The last bit of news is about the Z2. We’ve already heard plenty about this car, and that’s because it’s likely to make its public appearance soon. If all goes well the Z4-based soft top concept could see the light of day as early as the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
